Querl Dox, better known as Brainiac 5 or Brainy, is a DC Comics character.

Brainiac 5 first appeared in Action Comics #276 (1961).

Brainiac 5 is a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes in the 30th Century. Born on the super-intelligent planet Colu, he is a 12th-level intellect considered a genius even by their standards. This makes him an incredible scientist, inventor, and strategist in combat. His ancestor is the super-villain Brainiac, and he takes this name to redeem his family's lineage.

Legion of Super Heroes (TV series)

Brainiac 5 appears in the Legion of Super Heroes animated series as a core member of the Legion.

Other Adaptions

Brainiac 5 appears in one episode of Justice League Unlimited and one episode Smallville. Brainiac 5 also appeared on Supergirl multiple times throughout season 3, having traveled back in time with Saturn Girl and Mon-El to help stop the World Killer threat.

Reaction to Brainiac 5's design in Supergirl was mixed upon its reveal.[1] Some criticized Brainiac 5 having blue skin instead of his comic canon green, although he was also blue in Justice League Unlimited. Other were not fond of his hair style,[2] with many jokingly pointing out the similarities it had with Doc Brown's hair from Back to the Future.[3] Jesse Rath, the actor playing Brainiac 5, tweeted that once his character started talking he would grow on them.[4]
