Blossoming Love is a fanmade digital zine centered around Susato Mikotoba from The Great Ace Attorney games and femslash ships featuring this character.

About

Applications

The zine's social media account began posting approximately around November 2022. The zine was declared to be non-profit, safe for work, and exclusively digital. While the project was purported to explore all femslash ships with Susato, the organizers later omitted some ships from appearing in the zine, including Susato Mikotoba/Maria Gorey, on the account that Maria was 19 years old and Susato was 17, which the organizers believed would make some participants uncomfortable.

Applications for a layout mod, an art mod, and a beta writer mod ran from November 12 to December 5, 2022. Mod applications closed early on December 2, 2022. Interest checks for the zine began on November 21, 2022, and closed on December 5, 2022. The organizers reported a total of 68 responses.

Contributor applications for page artists, merch artists, and writers opened on December 12, 2022. The deadline was scheduled to be on January 6, 2023, but was later extended to January 13th. Results were sent out on January 16, 2023.

Mini Events

During production, a coloring page contest was launched on approximately January 20, 2023. Upon posting, the organizers were notified that the lineart used for the contest was suspiciously similar to a different piece of fanart by angomay, one of the project's contributors. The organizers detailed on a Tumblr post that they confirmed with the coloring page artist that the piece was indeed heavily inspired by angomay's work. As part of the project's no plagiarism policy, all posts of the contest were taken down, and the coloring page artist in question was removed from the project entirely.

The coloring page contest was relaunched on January 27, 2023, with new art by CassiferLynn, another contributor. All submissions had to be submitted by March 24, 2023, and in addition, artificial intelligence was not allowed to be used in the coloring process of any entry.

Another event was hosted on May 6, 2023, for "DGS WLW Ship Day". In a document posted on March 10th, followers of the project's social media accounts were encouraged to post whatever inspired them with the theme of "Blossoming Love". Posts for the event were required to be safe for work, tagged appropriately for triggers, and tagged with the with the "#DGSWLW23" hashtag.

Production & Release

Originally, the final deadline for contributors was set to be publish on April 9, 2023, but by February 26th, the organizers pushed the date to April 16th so as to not conflict with Easter. Layout was confirmed to begin on April 23rd with a tentative release date around May 2023.

The zine was then released on May 20, 2023, via a link to a Google Drive folder containing a PDF file of the zine, and another folder containing digital merch such as emoticons and wallpaper.
