Barricade Day refers to the 5th and 6th of June, the days on which the 1832 June Rebellion took place[1], and is celebrated by Les Misérables fans. The days are mostly celebrated by the creation of additional fanworks, many of which revolve around the events that take place during those two days in Les Misérables, as well as more frequent activity within the fandom in general.

History

Barricade Day was already an established event in the Les Mis fandom by the time the 2012 movie attracted an enormous amount of fans.

Sudden realization: there are so many new people in this fandom that there may be a significant contingent who don’t know about the joys and sorrows of our impending fandom holiday.

Barricade Day is actually two days, June 5-6, in commemoration of the 1832 uprising. It’s traditionally marked by a sudden explosion of fan output. Many people will spend most of the day(s) at the computer, writing, editing, reblogging, and generally crying about everything.[2]
