Bardock is a supporting character in the Dragon Ball series, and is the father of protagonist Son Goku.

Bardock is usually a very beloved character, though there is some discourse about his characterization and personality: in his original first appearance in the Bardock – The Father of Goku TV special, he was portrayed as a very serious person who had murdered a lot of people and did not care about his kids, while in Dragon Ball Minus he is a lot less cold and helps to save his son from the destruction of his planet. There are many that find the less ruthless Bardock less interesting or too similar to Jor-El from the Superman comics, while others don't mind it all that much.
Fanon and tropes
Stories about him meeting with Goku and his family are very popular, as the two have only met in Spin-off material. Sometimes these stories have Bardock being ressurected and getting a second chance at life, in others he finds Goku in the afterlife.
Before Gine's introduction on Dragon Ball Minus, it was also common to speculate on who his wife/mate could be, with a lot of people believing in the rumour that Selipa/Fasha, the main female Saiyan from the TV special, was his wife. There were also a lot of Original Characters created by fans to be his wife, with one of the more popular being Hanasia from the webcomic Dragon Ball Multiverse.
Relationships
His most popular pairing is with his own wife, Gine, which is obviouly canon. He's also sometimes paired with some of his partners from the original TV special, like Tora/Toma and Selipa/Fasha, or, more rarely, with King Vegeta.
