Reactions and Reviews
Gorgeously written hard sex in the aftermath of a tense op during which Doyle almost dies and has an epiphany: he realises he would not only die to save Bodie, but that he made the effort that day to live for him. I see this story as MFae's WNGWJLEO (we're not gay, we just love each other) story. Both of them are frightened of the emotions--the love--they're denying, trying to hang on to the sense of its being merely understandable sex between mates to relieve tension. Doyle's experience is the first crack that makes him see it might be something more. The reader sees in such imagery as their hands clasping that it's already much more than they can admit. I love MFae's subtlety here, the way she communicates the undercurrents without overtly telling us. The story seems to be about nothing but sex, the characters are trying to deny it's anything but sex, but it's about so very much more.[1]
