Before You Follow, abbreviated BYF, is a term used on some social media to invite prospective followers to do something before they, well, start following. Most often this consists in reading the info the user has provided in a bio/profile, in which case the initialism can also be used as a noun (e.g: read my byf).

Carrds typically have a "byf" page or paragraph, but the term is also used on Tumblr and Twitter.

Different people and fandoms expect different things from a byf section, but these usually include DNIs. Some of them might include a bio, information on what a user usually posts and how they tag it, whether they use trigger warnings or their stance on controversial fandom issues.
