Ava Silva is the main character in the Netflix series Warrior Nun. After a series of events leads to a recently deceased Ava being resurrected by the Halo, Ava becomes the next Warrior Nun, a role which she is reluctant to take up when she has a new chance at life.
Canon
The series opens with Ava's death, which is much later revealed to be murder at the hands of the abusive nun who had looked after Ava since she was seven years old. She is brought back to life when the Warrior Nun's halo — recently removed from Sister Shannon, who was killed during a mission — is placed in her back; the power of halo also reverse the mobility impairment that Ava lived with from aged 7 until her death.

Discussions about disability and ableism
Prior to having the halo placed in her back, Ava was a quadriplegic, resulting from injuries sustained during the car crash which killed her mother as a child. The halo allowed her to move again. Ava's disability, the removal of it, and the way the show discussed and included disability have been matters of considerable discussion within some parts of the fandom.
Some fans, disappointed with how disability was included in the show, write Ava either with her canonical disability in their fanworks or as being Disabled in another way. Many of these works are AU works. Some of these have been well-received by fans, while others have generated their own controversy when fans have said they are ableist in different ways. For example, one fanwork where Ava sustained a traumatic brain injury in a canon-divergent fanwork received very mixed feedback from fans and prompted discussions around the portrayal of TBI, issues of infantalisation, and matters of consent.
