Arthedain was founded in Oslo on September 16th, 1981. There has been two main activities, the regular member-meetings, and publishing the Society's fanzine, Angerthas. Anyone can become a member of the Tolkien Society, but if you are under 15, you'll need your parents written permission.Angerthas, the fanzine, usually comes out three times per year. The member-meetings are the domain of the local groups in Oslo (Talath Aer) and Bergen(Mithlond). Usually, meetings are held once per month.
Arthedain was also the host-organization for the Nordic Tolkien Festival 1997 in Oslo in august 1997. This was the second Nordic Tolkien Festival ever held, the first was held with great success in the summer of 1994 in Upsala, Sweden. The next Nordic Tolkien Festival will be in Stockholm in 1999.
