Book
In the book American Gods, main character Shadow Moon is released from prison to find that both his best friend and his wife Laura Moon were killed in an accident just days before. The story follows Shadow as he is employed by the mysterious Mr. Wednesday to act as bodyguard, driver, and general errand boy along a road trip through America that quickly grows into a large-scale conflict between the gods of modern-day America.
Other stories in the universe include two of Neil Gaiman's short stories, Black Dog and The Monarch of the Glen, as well as the novel Anansi Boys which shares the character Mr. Nancy with American Gods.
