Bokuto Koutarou/Akaashi Keiji is a pairing in the Haikyuu fandom. Both characters are on the Fukurodani team.

Canon

Bokuto is a year older than Akaashi. Before coming to Fukurodani Academy, Akaashi played as a setter in his junior high school and received a recommendation from Fukurodani Academy. He wasn't sure about Fukurodani, but after witnessing a high school match featuring Bokuto, his passionate attitude towards volleyball and his incredible skill led Akaashi to enrolling in Fukurodani in order to play with Bokuto.

The two make a powerful spiker/setter duo. Akaashi also knows Bokuto well enough to deal with his ups and downs during games (Bokuto's "emo" mood), and Akaashi can predict which of Bokuto's moods will surface with each move. He can also tell when Bokuto's playing is off, even if it's something small. Akaashi has even memorized a list of Bokuto's weaknesses and ways to help him during matches.

Outside of matches, Akaashi seems to be Bokuto's closest friend. They hang out together, despite Akaashi being Bokuto's underclassman and their contrasting personalities (low energy vs. high energy, loud vs. quiet). They also seem to be closely attuned to each other, as shown when Akaashi reminds Bokuto that he failed his math exam and Bokuto exclaims that Akaashi promised not to tell, or when Bokuto suddenly threw off his jacket and Akaashi habitually caught it.

Common Tropes in Fanworks

  • Futurefic and College AUs are all fairly common settings for Bokuaka fanworks.
    • A common relationship surrounding them in fics tends to be Kuroken, since Bokuto and Kuroo are somewhat close.
    • Another common trope for this pairing is age reversal AUs, swapping the high-energy upperclassman Bokuto with the more mature, stable underclassman Akaashi.
  • Pining also tends to be a common theme in Bokuaka fanworks, though the person pining tends to vary.
