Flyer Description

Our 'zine focuses exclusively on female Immortals, whether they be characters we've seen on the show, or original female Immortals. We think there is a great unexplored universe of issues and problems specific to female Immortals which haven't been explored on the show, and unfortunately weren't explored on Raven. So stay tuned to this page for the unveiling of A Zine of Their Own: Stories Honoring Immortal Women. In the meantime, however, we thought we'd tease you a bit with what our Zine has to offer the fanfic world.

What we were looking for when we picked our stories -- It's plain and simple. We were looking for stories about female Immortals and we think the stories we picked for the first edition of A Zine of Their Own focus on different experiences of women Immortals, in life as an Immortal, in history, in the Game, etc. We also think we have a good balance between stories including Original Female Characters (OFCs) and stories which focus on characters we've seen on the series.

Length and style -- We selected stories that range from comedy to drama, mixed in some romance, action and angst. We've kept this ‘zine in the range between G and R, so we don't have any Adult stories. (By adult stories, we mean those that have graphic sex, either het or slash. ) Violence is okay... this IS Highlander, right? (However, since our personal tastes shy away from gratuitous violence and hurt/comfort that is over-balanced on the hurt side, we'd really have to like the story a lot otherwise to accept it and we didn't get any entries that had any gratuitous violence.) We had no objection to same sex relationships, but we never did get any stories in that genre, though we have an author in mind whom we'd love to write a story for us someday.

We have accepted stories with characters from pre-existing story arcs, but we feel that those stories stand on their own and give us a good background of the character's history. Since many of the OFCs are part of pre-existing universes already published on the web, we did not discourage them and we accepted a few, but again those stories are self-contained and include characters who are pretty popular in Highlander Fanfic Fandom anyway.
