The story begins with Vincent and Catherine taking a walk in Central Park in broad daylight, thanks to Father who managed to displace the New Yorkers with a battery of helpers and tunnel dwellers, allowing V and C unprecedented freedom. After that, V and C's relationship progresses, and she contemplates her place below.
