A Promise of Red is a fan anthology dedicated to the relationship between Kazuma Asougi and Ryuunosuke Naruhodou from The Great Ace Attorney duology.

About

The anthology "A Promise of Red" showcases and celebrates the dynamic between Ryuunosuke Naruhodou and Kazuma Asougi. The main theme is the red thread of fate, inspired by Asougi's Hachimaki. Works can be either platonic, friendly or romantic! It features illustrations, spreads, comics, writing and special collaborations between writers and artists.[1]

The anthology was announced with an interest check on December 1, 2021[2]. The zine would be for profit and would welcome all interpretations of the ship, whether they be romantic, platonic, or something else. When the interest check closed on January 1, 2022, the project's mods reported over 300 responses in their interest checks results post on January 14, 2022[3].

The project opened contributor applications for artists, merch aritsts, and writers beginning on January 4, 2022 and ending on January 25th[4]. Results were sent out by February 6, 2022[5].

Preorders opened on July 7, 2022, with the following pricing tiers[6]:

  • Yuumei ($20 USD) - Digital Zine, Phone Wallpaper, Emojis, Windows Folder Icon
  • Daruma ($30 USD) - Physical Zine, Digital Zine
  • Ryuunosuke ($40 USD) - Physical Zine, Heart Badges, Acrylic Standee, Tote Bag (Stretch Goal), Acrylic Charm (Stretch Goal)
  • Kazuma ($40 USD) - Physical Zine, Prints, Postcard, Notepad, Sticker Stampes, Omamori Charm (Stretch Goal)
  • Karuma ($50 USD) - Prints, Postcard, Notepad, Sticker Stamps, Heart Badges, Acrylic Standee, Phone Wallpaper, Emojis, Windows Folder Icon, Omamori Charm (Stretch Goal), Acrylic Charm (Stretch Goal), Tote Bag (Stretch Goal)
  • Partners ($60 USD) - Physical Book, Prints, Postcard, Notepad, Sticker Stamps, Heart Badges, Acrylic Standee, Phone Wallpaper, Emojis, Windows Folder Icon, Omamori Charm (Stretch Goal), Acrylic Charm (Stretch Goal), Tote Bag (Stretch Goal)

An early bird bonus of a pack of additional prints and a sticker pack was offered for the first 50 physical orders[7]. Stretch goals included an acrylic linked charm at 50 orders, an omamori charm at 100 orders, a tote bag at 150 orders, and an custom book wrap to the physical zine's cover at 200 orders[8]. A giveaway for a full bundle was hosted from July 24 to July 31, 2022[9]. The winner of this giveaway was Twitter user waveoftheocean[10]. Preorders closed on August 8, 2022[11]. Further updates on the zine's production and shipping progress were detailed in an email newsletter dedicated to the zine.

Physical orders began shipping on January 6, 2023[12]. Digital bundles were sent out on January 12, 2023[13]. Leftover sales were originally scheduled to begin at the start of March 2023, but was moved to a new window from March 15 to March 31, 2023[14]. The early bird bonus previously offered in the preorder round was also offered to the first 15 full bundles sold in leftover sales[15]. By June 14, 2023, the project was announced closed[16].
