Reactions and Reviews

It has been such a long time since I've read something that held my attention so completely as this did. I forgot about breakfast and am about 30 minutes past lunch. This is a compelling and unique take on the the Sentinal/Guide bonding and a hell of a good story in the process. Thank you for giving me such pleasure on a cold, winter day. [1]

It's basically like the title says. Jim and Blair have Sentinels and Guides coming out the yin yang.

Blair gets abducted by a man in need of a guide (for nefarious purposes, natch). Still reeling from the Alex incident, Blair finds himself with four unbonded sentinels who are barely hanging on. Meanwhile, Jim finds himself short one guide and awash in new spirit animals. And his day only goes downhill from there.

I don't usually say this, but the stars of this fic are the OCs (and that includes the Spirit Animals of Awesomeness). Jim and Blair are both well done, of course, and I can never get enough of Alex angst, but by the end of the story I was mostly rooting for all of these new sentinels and their guides and absolutely loving Blair's idea as to how to take care of them all. An entertaining, enjoyable romp. With awesome spirit animals!

Note: I seem to recall that this fic has a sequel, but it's a very different story with a very different tone (and is also a crossover, if I'm remembering correctly) so if I do decide to rec it, I'll do so in a separate post.[3]

The Sentinel is a fandom with spirit animals. That's just the way it is; we all have to accept it. In fan fiction they range from cuddly-wuddly kitties and puppies to mysterious, phantasmic harbingers of doom. HOWEVER, in Lady Ra's talented, witty hands, for once they make sense. Not only that, the characterizations are true, the premise is inspired, and the OC's are brilliantly drawn. This story is exciting, well-plotted, seasoned with Lady Ra's trademark humor, and basically, the best portrayal of the whole wolf/panther canon I've ever read.[4]
