Author's Comments

An unusually short story with the C Frost byline, but I’m quite proud of it. It came about because I’d had it up to here with Angel-Blair/Jerk-Jim stories. Of course, it doesn’t do any good to whine about such stories in fandom, because those who identify with a victimized Blair (at the hands of his “friend”) will write them anyway. I challenged myself to “whine” in a more creative fashion and I liked how it turned out.

This story was also vindication for aspects of my personal life. I was frustrated in my 20's when relatives had no appreciation for all the things my boyfriend (an older man) had done for me, and I suspect some even felt he was an abuser, just because he had a powerful personality. I've also had times in my life when others felt a need to stand up for me, when no such "protection" was necessary. Despite the good intentions in the latter situation, it can be rather insulting to be thought of as so fragile.

Of all my stories, this is probably the one I've re-read the most. I like it that much.[1]
