Heero/Duo is one of the most popular Gundam Wing ships.

Canon

Heero is the main protagonist of Gundam Wing, while Duo is one of the more popular supporting characters. The two are child soldiers and terrorists fighting on behalf of a group of space colonies against oppressive powers from Earth. Both are orphans with grim pasts and few personal connections, but Heero is serious and stoic while Duo enjoys banter and teasing. Over the course of the series, they come to respect each other's abilities and approaches, and by the end of the series, the two are shown to trust one another deeply.

Fanon and Popular Tropes

  • Like many other anime-fandom slash pairings from the 90's and 00's, Heero/Duo was frequently interpreted through a seme/uke lens by fans. Usually, Heero was portrayed as the seme and Duo as the uke.
  • Fans of the Heero/Duo ship were often hostile to the Heero/Relena ship and to the character of Relena in general. Many fans included Relena-bashing in their Heero/Duo fanworks.
  • Duo canonically refuses to cut his hair and uses it as a way of remembering some of the people he's lost. Heero/Duo fics often feature Heero assisting Duo in washing, brushing, or braiding his hair.
  • Heero and Duo are often portrayed as a battle couple.
