Turn Back the Night is a slash and het Andromeda anthology fanzine.

The contents are divided into two parts: "adult" (which is het) and "slash."

Reactions and Reviews: Issue 1

Turn Back the Night #1, by Neon Rainbow Press.

Set up almost identically to Slipstream #1, Turn Back the Night is its adult and slash sister zine. All stories are soft R to NC-17.

Description: comb-bound, 125 pgs, with color cover, plastic protector sheets front and back and interior card stock pages to protect the cover.

The front cover, a collage of what look like publicity stills on a star field, is attractive and well done. I'm not sure who the artist was. I couldn't find a dedication.

Once again, the editor's page includes a sweet thank you to all of the contributor's. A nice touch, that. They also include a "beg and grovel" section listing all of their zines seeking submissions.

The font is large, about 11 pt, and pleasing to the eye. The titles are large and each title page includes any author's notes that they sent in; not something included in every zine. Margins appear to be 1 inch on the sides and top, 1 1/2 on the bottom, so not a lot of white space. At the end of each story is a nice little design.

I really liked that the editors divided the table of contents and the zine into 2 sections: adult and slash. This makes it easy for those who want to read one or the other to find what they're looking for. I also liked that at the very top of the title page for each story it lists the type of story and the pairing. You don't have to peek, but if you're looking for something specific, it really helps.

Now, for the stories: since I don't read m/m slash, I'm going to leave the reviews of all of the slash stories to someone else who got the zine. I'm sorry. I really just don't like to read m/m slash. I recognize some of the author's names and they are good writers, so I'm sure the stories are good.

All of the stories I read were well written and well edited. There were very few typos and I noticed no real grammar errors in the zine.

I also won't review my short and two drabbles, though I can tell you a little bit about them.

"Anticipation" by Anna McLain, 3 pgs, stars Rommie and Dylan and ends with a twist. That's all I'm gonna say about that. :-)

"Unrequited" and "Reprieve" by Anna McLain are both drabbles. One is a you -decide -who -it's about, and the other is Rommie/Dylan set at the end of All Too Human.

"Damage Control" by Sienna Edwards, 5pgs, a really revealing Harper and Beka character study. Taking place directly after The Widening Gyre, it explores the depth of caring the two feel for each other. Very emotional!

"Thunderstorm" by Kludge, 8 pgs, is a Beka/Tyr story chock full of angst and high emotion. The characters are well drawn and there's a cool peek into Tyr's psyche. This is a complex story that could easily be a sub-plot in an episode.

"Lion's Tyr" by Eirene, 18 pgs, is a Tyr/original female story. It explores some of Tyr's inner conflicts and inner voices. I loved the scene between he and Rev Bem. I know, that's not telling you all much, but I don't want to spoil it. It has vivid descriptions. The character of Eirene is well developed and interesting.

"Tyr's Pride" by Eirene, 16 pgs, picks up shortly after "Lion's Tyr" ends. Let's just say, it's wonderful to experience Tyr in love. A very detailed and explicit story with a funny twist.

"Electric Dreams" by Wolf, poem, 1pg. As a Rommie/Dylan fan, I really enjoyed this poem. Stuffed with angst, longing, desire and unrequited love, it's an excellent read.

The rest of the stories are m/m slash. I'll give titles and page counts.

Altogether, another great zine. If you want intense mature reading, this is a good zine for you.
