The Libertines are a band that originated in the northwest of London back in the late 90's and was initially formed by Pete Doherty and Carl Barât. They are generally ranked among the bands that emerged within the Post-Punk Revival genre in the early 2000s in the UK, achieving top chart positions in Europe, Asia and North America.

Despite its recognition, an important part of the band is how conflictive the relationship between its members has been, leading them to separate and unite on several occasions, having a period of continuous activity from 1997 to 2004, meeting again in 2010 and reuniting from 2014 to the present.

Among the most popular Libertines songs we have "Don't Look Back to The Sun", "Can't Stand Me Now" and "Time For Heroes".

Up the Bracket Alley

Example of lyrics of a Libertines song written in Grove Passage (Up the Bracket Alley)

Grove Passage is an alley in London (located near Bethnal Green station) where the song "Up the Bracket" was filmed. It is now a pilgrimage sanctuary for Libertines fans. The walls of the alley are covered in graffiti, messages, lyrics and art related to the band.[1][2]

Shipping

The pairing Pete Doherty/Carl Barât itself makes up the majority of shipping in the fandom. As of March 2022, there are 274 works in the AO3 Libertines fandom tag, 231 of which are tagged as Pete x Carl (also known as Pearl by some fans). They're known for sharing the mic to sing together and getting really physical to each other on stage. Rumors of them dating have been running from the start, despite them being in relationships with other people at times. The fact that they've compared each other to lovers more than once on interviews[3] only gives fans more reasons to ship them.
