The Arcana is a tarot-inspired otome game.
Overview
The main character is you, and is referred to as the Apprentice; you can set the character's name and pronouns. There are 6 routes in the game, with different storylines, where you romance Asra, Nadia, Julian Devorak, Muriel, Portia, or Lucio. Minigames include a tarot minigame; you can also buy the tarot deck which was made by the game developers.
Controversy
Extensive kickstarter and game delays, Dana Rune's reveal as a Fire Emblem:Fates fan who shipped an incest or pseudoincest ship, treatment of some fans they disagreed with, and the treatment of Lucio in his route angered many fans.

Shipping
Reader-insert shipping with the 6 love interests is common, with Julian Devorak and Asra being the most popular overall. Lucio has a small group of dedicated fans. There are also ships with some of the other courtiers, where monster-fucking is a common trope.
A few of the characters are often paired with each other, particularly Asra/Julian Devorak due to it being canon that they had a past relationship, and more rarely Asra/Muriel due to them being childhood friends.

Fanfiction
Reader-insert fanfiction is especially popular due to the medium. One interesting trend is many fic-writers choose to use gender-neutral language for their reader fanfiction(perhaps because players can choose he/him, she/her, or they/them pronouns, , which is unusual since most self-insert romance fics on ao3 feature a female protagonist.
