Personal accounts of the fandom: Video games:

* Staying up late to play along with people as we attempted to solve newly released games
  • Being on Gamershood and EscapeGames24 comments sections and forums for these games
  • Sitting with multiple people all around the computerin the computer room to play these games
  • Playing Something's Amiss in school - teacher put the game on for us on the laptops and we had to solve it. Competitive and in person.

Popular sites for gaming are EscapeGames24 and Gamershood

When a game was released there would be a host of players in the forums or comment sections to give each other hints if stuck or try to work through puzzles together, making a single player pc game more collaborative

in-person rooms

IRL Rooms:
  1. I've done ones I don't think are officially based on thingsbut are very clearly inspired by things ljke Harry Potter and Prison Break
  2. I've done ones that are actively stated to be Sherlock Holmes themed or Alice in Wonderland themed
  3. Locked in a room for an hour. Sometimes with a game master inside with you available to give hints, sometimes only with a tablet to give hints (sometimes with a time penalty), sometimes a mix of both where you can have a games master come in the room with you to give hints then leave.
  4. Games are often centred around word puzzles, number puzzles and getting various types of combinations correct. Directional, 3 number, 4 number and 5 letters seem to be the most common in the ones I've done
  5. Rooms tend to be redesigned every now and again or completely revamped into a different theme to let local players return and compete, testing themselves again
