Friday, July 17th: After just another couple hours of sleep, our day began with breakfast in our room (compliments of Tim Horton). We then rendezvoused with Lisa and Renee. This year, the four of us were honored to represent the Club during the convention’s opening ceremonies. Similar to the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, the four of us, dressed in Canadian Mountie uniforms, took turns walking into the convention room. Three of the four of us carried a different flag – Renee (Canada), Jackie (Alberta) and Brenda (U.S.). Lisa, dressed as Vinnie, carried a lantern containing a battery operated Winterfest candle. The flags and lantern were presented to Michele in appreciation for hosting the convention and in recognition of this being the first Canadian Beauty and the Beast convention. We LOVE YOU Michelle!!! During the ceremony, the song Canada Is by Michael Mitchell played while a video played...

A full day of activities followed the opening ceremony. Rosemarie held an insightful panel (Two Truths and a Lie) in which participants at each table individually provided three statements about themselves. Of the three statements, others at the table had to guess which one was the lie. The table in which the two of us were seated won. The panel served as an excellent tool for getting to know new con goers (and them us) as

well as learning more about friends we have known for years. With attribution and much appreciation to Rosemarie, look for this game to be played at upcoming Club activities.

Before our delicious deli buffet lunch, a representative from the Calgary Humane Society, the 2015 con charity, provided a presentation about this most worthwhile organization. A special thanks to all Chesapeake Helpers’ members, their families and friends, who donated money so that the Club could support this charity. Together, we donated 600 Canadian dollars!!! As always, your generosity is much appreciated!!! A special shout out also to Pat T. for her monetary contribution in support of the Club’s 2015 – 2016 fundraising season. We VERY MUCH appreciate your support!!!

After lunch, JoAnn and Larry were awarded (and most deservedly so) with the 2015 Chan Award. JoAnn and Larry epitomize all that is best about being human. We thank you, thank you, thank you for your friendship and all that you have done (and continue to do) on behalf of our beloved fandom.

The afternoon session wrapped up with the talent show walk-through which we (Brenda, Jackie, Lisa and Renee) attended. Afterward, the four of us practiced our routine a couple more times. A special thanks to all family and friends back home who sat through all our earlier rehearsals and provided accessories, feedback, input etc., etc. etc. Three of the four (Brenda, Jackie and Renee) then went for dinner in the hotel restaurant (Lisa was feeling under the weather but fortunately felt better a short time later). Afterward, the four of us again donned our Canadian Mountie costumes for the variety show. Prior to the show, JoAnn sponsored a special surprise celebration in recognition of the 20th anniversary of BBTV. Thank you JoAnn!!!

This year’s variety show featured a lot of quality (and at times very humorous) talent. Our Club variety show number was dedicated this year to Helene. You were missed Helene and in the thoughts and prayers of so many. We look forward to seeing you in New Jersey!!!

Saturday evening was the traditional banquet. The darkened banquet room (Great Hall) featured light from a vast array of sources including candles and lanterns. It was truly magical!!! The centerpieces were especially noteworthy this year with each piece representing one of the tunnel character’s chambers. Banquet attendees were given the opportunity to match the centerpiece with the character with a prize being awarded to the person(s) who guessed the most correct answers. Much, much fun!!! The banquet dinner was also exceptional. While we ate, those at our table were treated to both a woman’s (Anna) and a man’s (Paul) perspective on goes into a successful marriage.

Although the Club’s traditional post con dinner was scheduled for that evening, no one was hungry after all the food we had throughout the day. Instead, the Club held a room party which was attended by about 23 people. Attendees played multiple rounds of Dirty Minds, sipped Canadian wine, snacked, talked etc. Thanks everyone for coming and partying with us!!!
