On Ao3, the top ships featured in the Smile PreCure! tag (excluding crossovers) are:

  • Aoki Reika/Midorikawa Nao (8/79 works)
  • Aoki Reika/Hoshizora Miyuki (6/79 works)
  • Hino Akane/Midorikawa Nao (5/79 works)
  • Aoki Reika/Joker (4/79 works)

The ship of Hino Akane/Midorikawa Nao may be popular due to the rivals to lovers nature of the relationship, with both girls excelling in sport and competing with each other.

Another ship, Aoki Reika/Joker, may be considered controversial due to the toxic nature of their in-canon relationship. Their dynamic may be observed in Episode 43, titled "Abroad Decision" / "Reika's Path! I will Study Overseas!!", which features close interaction of these two characters, with Joker manipulating Reika into a weakened state in an attempt to defeat and kill her.
