The pairing appeared after X-Men: The Last Stand was released. Within a few months, two communities were dedicated to the pairing. Fanfiction and other fanworks were created for the pairing since 2006, although there have been fics from before that. Kitty/John works appeared on AO3, FFN, YouTube and LJ.
