The New Moon Directory is a long-running directory of apazines.

Description

The New Moon Directory was first published in 1988 and ran for nine issues until the 1997-1998 issue. Its predecessor was South of the Moon, last published by Mike Horvat in 1984, and the name "New Moon Directory" was an homage to it. NMD included listings for all the amateur press associations I could find information for and over the course of its 10-year run (there was no 1994 issue), listed about 140-150 active apas in any given year. I put NMD on hiatus in 1999 when I went back to college for the third time with the intent of resuming publication in 2001, but by then, my interest in publishing NMD had been replaced by a promising new career and my continuing work for Dragon*Con. I officially handed off the apa directory reins to Heath Row a few years ago, who subsequently published NMD's direct descendant, Active APAs in 2008 or 2009 and then Blue Moon Special in 2009. [1]

Beginning with the 1990 issue, I shot photos for cover art rather than using line drawings and would place previous issues in the photo; beginning in 1991, the photos also included teddy bears. One teddy bear and three previous issues in the 1991 cover photo ended up being eight previous issues and dozens of bears by the 1997 issue. Teddy bears had absolutely nothing to do with apas or NMD; the inclusion of them just sorta became my running theme for no particular reason other than it amused me. [2]
