Mytharc stands for "mythology arc" and refers to the central storyline of a series. The term was coined by the creators of The X-Files and was used by fans when discussing elements that were part of that central storyline.[1] Since then has been adopted by many fandoms, e.g. in Supernatural fandom for the central demon storyline.[2]

Episodes that dealt with those central elements or introduced a new piece of the puzzle were called "mytharc episodes." In X-Filrs the two-parters Colony/Endgame and Tunguska/Terma are considered mytharc episodes because they are part of the bigger picture and not just a Monster of the Week.
