Streaming (sometimes called livestreaming) is the act of providing real-time video streams to viewers and fans. These can range in content from a YouTuber chatting with their fans to artists who stream themselves drawing, but most often the term is applied to the Gaming community and the specific act of playing video games while on a stream, usually a stream located on the site Twitch.

There are many sites one can use to stream, from Twitch to YouTube itself.

The Medium of Streaming

there’s something so addictive about the energy of being in a chat with thousands of people waiting for a big stream to start. it’s like the anticipatory hush in a movie theater in the dark moment right before the title screen combined with the roaring adrenaline of a screaming concert crowd. chat flies. you keep reassuring yourself you don’t need to pee. mods try to distract us with inane polls. every thirty seconds you panic that it’s started without you and feverishly refresh for the umpteenth time. we’re all nuts. i love it
