Digest-sized is one of several standard sizes for print fanzines. It is approximately 5½ x 8¼ inches for US publishers and A5 for European and Australian publishers, with slight variations. In zine flyers it is sometimes referred to simply as a 'digest'.
One fan says why she likes the size: "[It's a]... easy to transport size. I love these little... 'zinelets, because I can stuff them in a bag to take wherever and usually the covers are innocuous so I don't have to worry about 'peepers'!"
I want to publish a series of digest-sized S&H slash fanzines for two main reasons:
1) To grow deeper author/editor relationships I want the freedom to work one-on-one with a single author, rather than potentially spreading myself thin working with a dozen people simultaneously, as can sometimes happen when producing a big anthology.2) Timeliness Big anthology zines usually need to debut at a con due to the incredible financial commitment necessary to bring about the publication. I want the freedom to publish when I have a good story that is ready to go--not to make the author wait half a year for a deadline. Because digest zines are much more affordable to produce, I can publish an issue of Cops Need Love Too whenever one is ready.
