Children, Wake Up is a Kylo Ren/Hux series by Hollycomb. This story is set immediately after the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It consists of three fics;
- Life Sentence, No Cellmate
- Ceasefire
- Under the Ruins of a Walled City
The summary for the first was, "Hux follows orders and loses his way."

Widely considered to be the Kylux fandom's magnum opus, and for good reason. With drop-dead gorgeous prose and deeply emotional storylines, every one of hollycomb's works leaves readers waiting for the next weekly update (given her incredible work ethic as well).[2]
i honestly believe that the time period over which @hollyhark was writing and publishing cwu defined the golden age of the kylux fandom. you may try to deny it, but deep down you know it’s true. very few experiences in my life come close to the emotional intensity of anxiously waiting for a new chapter, then finally getting to read it, then having your soul shattered into hundreds of pieces time and time again in all kinds of ways and knowing thousands of people are going through it right by your side. i’ve read many a great fic, some of them as they were being updated as well, but the impact cwu had on me both while reading it and after finishing as a whole is for some reason the strongest. i feel like it really brought this fandom together in a way that can’t be described with words if you haven’t experienced it yourself. you had to be there. Listen, I know everyone and their mother has read this (and if you haven’t what have you been doing???), but the list wouldn’t have been complete without it. What starts out as a pretty casual sexual relationship between Hux and Ren evolves in to the greatest love story of our time. [4]
To begin, a bit of a disclosure: I have not finished reading this whole series yet, but I will try to write as complete a review as possible. When I enter a new fandom, my ships typically don’t become set in stone until I’ve read a fic with a certain pairing or by whatever seems to be popular on my dash. I had heard about CWU back in February, but didn’t start reading until late March. I didn’t particularly like either of the characters featured in this ‘verse when I watched the movie, but these fics have certainly given me more of a nuanced perspective. The author’s style is calm and measured, but is also able to draw the most gut wrenching emotions from her characters. In particular, I found her descriptions of Kylo Ren’s thought processes and compartmentalization to be extremely well done. I am very much looking forward to continue reading the rest of this series and to see what else the author has in store for these characters.[5]
