Boots is a background character in Newsies played by Arvie Lowe, Jr.
Canon
According to a number of Teen Beat magazine transcripts, Boots's name is Benjamin Arvis.[1] Despite this, the Wikipedia page puts his surname as Arbus,[2] which appears to be the name used in the film script.[3] His nickname is Boots because he used to be a shoeshiner.
In one scene, Boots has a wristwatch which does not fit the time period or monetary abilities of the newsboys, which Arvie forgot to take off before filming.
Boots has more experience with Brooklyn than most of the Manhattan newsies.
Fandom
Name
Canonically, Boots's last name is either Arvis or Arbus, but the surname Arbuckle has also been common in the fandom. One fan claimed it was confirmed in the "Newsies Set Tour with Aaron, Max, and Arvie," which seems to no longer be available online, if it ever was.[4] The first known appearances of Arbuckle are from October 2020, but it may have been introduced earlier.[5] One fan, seeing a source for Arvis, commented that "#this whole time we’ve been arguing about if his last name is Arbus or Arbuckle. you’re telling me it was Arvis this whole time??"[6]
