Bend It Like Beckham is a 2002 film about the daughter of an orthodox Sikh who rebels against her parents' traditionalism by running off to join a football (soccer) team in Germany.
Fandom
The main attraction of this small fandom is the chemistry between the two female leads, Jess Bhamra (Parminder Nagra) and Jules Paxton (Keira Knightley), making it a popular femslash fandom. Gen friendship fics, as well as het (or threesome) stories featuring Jess's canonical love interest Joe (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), are also common.
The Bend it Like Beckham Fanfic Archive was hosted by GeoCities until its closure in 2009. The archive was last updated in December 2003 and primarily contained Jess/Joe and gen stories. Another Bend It Like Beckham archive, Number Seven, was active until 2004 or 2005.[1]
Currently, most Bend It Like Beckham fanfiction is found on archives such as AO3 and Fanfiction.net. As of 2012, twenty-four stories have been written for Yuletide,[2] for which the fandom has been eligible since 2003.
Bend It Like Beckham fanvids can be found on Youtube, and there was one shown at Vividcon in 2008.
