The BBTV Tunnels Yahoo Mailing List was started on Yahoo in 2001, but its roots date back much earlier.

The mailing list advertised itself as a "Classic" list for fans of the first two seasons of Beauty and the Beast.

Cons and Zines

In 2001, the mailing list hosted the International Beauty and the Beast Convention in New York City.

The list also published a zine series called Cyber Dreams: Tappings from the BBTV Pipes.

Earlier Roots

In late 1995, a small group of fans led by Aurea and Lynn set up a majordomo mailing list called BBCC (Beauty and the Beast Classic Connection).

The name was later changed to BBTV in early 1997 because one of the moderators was working on creating an alt.tv.beauty+beast group on the usenet.

From March 1998: "Beautybeast-tv (BBTV) is a mailing list sponsored by Runtime Chaos and is linked to the USENET newsgroup alt.tv.beauty+beast." [1]

The mailing list was moved over to Yahoo in 2001 after a major server crash.

Some Stats

As of November 2013 it had 743 members. In November 2015, it had 1055 members.

This list is a public list.

From the intro page:

This list is for fans of the 1980s CBS television series "Beauty and the Beast." It is a Classic fandom list, which means discussion focuses on Seasons 1 and 2 only. Catherine is alive and well here!

Fan Comments

For many of us, BBTV was our first contact with other Beauty and the Beast fans. Along with this came the realization (and immense relief) that we aren't crazy, that there are others who feel the same way we do, and that no matter what our season preference there is someone to talk to, someone who understands. BBTV opened up a whole new world for us, often giving us the courage to try things we would have not otherwise considered doing. Although many of us have never met, we discovered lifelong friendships. We found family. [2]

The Don Controversy

A fan in 1997 wrote:

I do support Aurea's right to run her list, I do deeply regret Don's absence and think that was an error in judgment, but accept that I may not have seen everything she saw. I must admit that I don't particularly miss the other party involved in the whole mess; I just felt that the two cases were different. [3]
