Description from a Flyer

Finally! A Guide for the Selection, Usage, and Care of Your Android: Introducing...

The Android Owner 's Manual

Through a series of technical articles, reviews, fiction and helpful hints. Editor McDonald and her staff can make the prospects of android ownership the joy it should be. Take the stress out of this unequalled privilege by ordering your manual now. The Android Owner's Manual offers four information-packed chapters covering an introduction to androids and cybernetics, a treatise on what they will be like, a guide to current android models (as seen by the media), and finally a guide to interaction with your android through example and helpful hints. You will be especially delighted if you are considering a Soong model number two (pictured on the opposite side of this flyer), which seems to be a favorite.

You owe it to yourself. Make no decisions until you have read The Android Owner's Manual. You'll be glad you did.

From the Editorial

Actually, what has befallen me is a spate of good fortune and a determination to release Android Owner's Manual before another year goes by. Do you realize that 1 started promising AOM in 1989? Can 1 say "Better late than never?" I hope it is at least somewhat worth the wait. I have to admit that the process of putting it together was very fulfilling, if exhausting. I was determined to edit, typeset, print, collate and bind the first fifty copies myself. Your copy is lovingly hand-created (as much as my hands can create with the machines I have available), so I hope that a few defects will not interfere with your enjoyment of AOM.

I decided over Christmas Break that 1 would not write to anyone, work on Electronic Male, or do any other outside work until I got AOM finished. Now that it's finished, we will go back into production on EM, and I will resume my contacts with my pen pals. Hope it's not too late.

Thanks a million to those who contributed art and articles. As I put this zine together, I was amazed at the quality of work I had the opportunity to use. I think all of it is first rate, and want you to give yourselves a pat on the back. My only regret is that the copier didn't do justice to some of the artwork, particularly Teresa Sanson's. Next printing, I'm going lo try to find a copy shop that can put out better quality copies of the artwork. I'm still trying to mess with the scanner at work in hopes that I can scan in some images and set them into my documents. Since I have a laser printer at home and a duplexer printer at work, 1 would be able to produce much better copies.
