The Snapefic Liberation Front (Snapefic_LibFront) is a Harry Potter Yahoo! group dedicated to fanfiction about Severus Snape.
The group was created in March 2002 and was most active in its first three months, with over a thousand cumulative messages posted.
By 2009, the group had exceeded 2,200 members and membership became moderated in order to combat spam.[1] As of 2018, the group is still online but does not appear to be approving new members. Message archives and files are restricted to members.
Authors who posted fiction to the group include Auror Borealis,[2] HyacinthMacaw,[3] and Amy McWilliams.[4] HyacinthMacaw thanks the group in the author's notes of their two Snape/Hermione stories, writing:
- "My thanks also go out to the gals at the Snapefic Liberation Front at Yahoo! Groups for their wise critique and ever-present encouragement, plus insane discussions by the bucket load. Looking forward to more of it, ladies!"[3]
Description
The group description in early 2003 stated:[5]
Welcome aboard! Tired of insults and the inability to express your opinion? Sick of being hounded for what you say? Fed up with moderators stifling you? Look no further, Snapefans, because fics and opinions are encouraged to be exchanged and discussed here.We're all mature adults here, and as such I do not intend to police you. The only moderation I stipulate is that I will step in with warnings or other necessary actions if blatant and persistent personal attacks or flames are being bandied about, but I do not expect that will be the case. To be up front about it, the consequences for violations are as follows: a warning, then two weeks of moderation, then outright banning.
To continue, any Snapefic is encouraged here. Adult fics are allowed, both het and slash, as we're of age to read/write as such. Please do label your fics if content is possibly objectionable to some: NC-17, slash, PWP, MiST, etc.
If your fic is related to Snape on a tangent, please e-mail me at jhpravatiner@[...] and tell me about it, and I'll likely tell you to post it to our "Files" section anyhow. Fanart is also happily accepted, though please post it to the "Photos" section in the interest of file space.
That said, all I have are a few words...and they are "Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!"
