IOHO, or In Our Humble Opinion, is an archive in The X-Files fandom that features what the maintainers consider the best fan fiction.

The site was created by iwondery and Lisby in the mid 1990s and was updated regularly until 2006. From one rendition of the site: "This X-Files fanfic archive and galleries belong to Lisby, iwonder (Marlene), Logovo (Liliana), Sapphire, and Xanthe. There is no secret agenda here. Straight forward and simple: what you see on this site is what we like. We hope you will, too." [1]

More than 600 stories are listed in the story index. The site also hosts picture galleries, writing challenges, and links.

From the site's intro page: "IOHO is an archive highlighting quality writing and good storytelling, in the opinion of the archivists. The IOHO archivists do not note genres, story types, or romantic/sexual pairings in the title listings. However, in most cases, clicking on a title will link you to a cover page with a short excerpt from the story and illustrative photos. In turn, the cover page links to the text where the authors themselves assign genre and ratings to their stories."

One of the things that made IOHO stand out from other rec sites was that each story was given its own splash page with original X-Files fanart and an excerpt from the fic, setting the mood for the piece.

Some Conflict

There was an very heated conflict played out at alt.tv.x-files.creative in the fall of 1998 regarding a positive rec for Sheare Bliss' story Complicated Shadows. The story was subsequently removed from IOHO.

The IOHO Store

The site hosted links to Amazon in hopes of funding the website.

Welcome to The IOHO X-Files Store.

"We are not lovers, we are not romantics, we are here to serve..." your shopping needs, that is. Over the next few weeks, we'll be expanding the store to include recommended books on law enforcement, profiling, serial murders, the paranormal, metaphysics, and other topics. We'll also be featuring the various X-Files CDs, as well as music by artists whose songs have inspired our fan fiction or reminded us of the show.

At the bottom of the page is an Amazon search box that will help you find other X-File-related materials--or any other book you want. Amazon.com handles all customer fulfillment. They ship your order directly to you. What's in it for us? We get 5 to 15 percent of the total order amount. Maybe it will help us fund this Web site! [2]
