"A Cherished Alienation" keeps both Janeway and Chakotay true to form - without needing to amend the characters to suit the stories purpose. [1]

Okay, so I've already raved on about how wonderful a writer Macedon is, but

just in case you didn't catch it the first time ....wow! A story of epic proportions (well, for me it was, anyway) that caught me by the scruff of the neck in the first few words, and kept me trawling for all the parts. One of the first stories I read when I found this newsgroup way back in January this year, and which convinced me that I should hang around. Macedon has a gift of making the characters seem so real - you really care about what

happens to them - I've stayed up all night just to find out! [2]

I find myself irritated with Janeway, too, at the end. Chakotay and the others who shared their stories have risked so much. When will she do the same? If not publicly, then with Chakotay?

Another lovely section that further develops the characters, especially Chakotay. [3]

Wow, what a great start: very believable, very sad, very expected. I never was quite pleased with how the series portrayed Chakotay's distaste with his culture. It seemed to me that he didn't have much of a reason to hate something he'd probably been lovingly raised into. I like/dislike that it was his friends that made him feel ashamed.

Also, the idea of saving the tadpoles is very cute. [4]
