The Fanfic Revolution began life as a mailing list comprised of authors seeking higher-quality anime fanfiction, particularly of the adult variety. Originally on eGroups, the writers opened a website to host their creations. The circle prided itself on their high standards and hard work, to the point where anyone who wished to become a part of the circle or have their work hosted were required to follow a strict set of guidelines and submit a piece for review. They readily admitted to being a "tough group to please." [1]

Content

Despite hosting fanfics from a variety of different anime, the site was mostly known for Sailor Moon fanfiction due to that being the biggest category, along with every member of the list being a fan of the series.

Yuri was hugely popular, making up the majority of the works posted on the site, with het a close second. Yaoi was far rarer.

Rei Hino was an exceedingly popular character, with the biggest focus in fan works being her lingering feelings for Mamoru as well as the feelings many imagined she had for Usagi. While a good chunk of the fics had dark endings with her never truly moving on, the OT3 of Usagi/Rei/Mamoru was common as well. Usagi and Mamoru's relationship was always treated with a degree of respect, even by authors who wanted to give Rei and Usagi a happy ending. (A rarity among shippers of Usagi with anyone other than Mamoru.)

The Outer Senshi were also extremely popular, especially the flagship yuri couple of Tenou Haruka/Kaiou Michiru. Their relationship was often written as an open one, with them sharing Setsuna or the Inner Senshi once in a while.

Revolutionary Girl Utena came in second for content volume, with Anthy/Utena and Juri's feelings for Shiori being the most common subjects.

Criticism

At least one fan took issue with the site's strict guidelines for hosting people's work, likening it to auditions for stage or sound. Others found much of the content objectionable, particularly the trend of Mamoru/Rei lemons as well as some authors' tendency towards graphic violence, death, and suicide.
