StarLight Massacre is a fan writer who first joined FanFiction.Net in 2006. She is most active in the Harry Potter fandom, best known for the ongoing fic The Rise of the Drackens. She was mainly only active on FanFiction.Net until 2012 after The Rise of the Drackens was removed from FanFiction.net for violating Terms of Service, then she joined AO3 and a few other sites to keep publishing the fic.

All the main relationships in her fics are slash and usually include Harry Potter as one member of the couple. She also has a number of fics featuring main pairings with three or more partners, all male.

Permissions

After a number of instances of plagiarism from others taking her work, StarLight Massacre issued a blanket statement in their author's bio:

I do NOT give my permission for anyone to use any part of any of my stories, which includes original places and characters. Anyone found to be using such things without my express permission will be reported on whatever site they choose to post such plagiarised material on.[1]

Crossovers

While her largest fanwork ROTD is in the Harry Potter fandom, StarLight Massacre is also well known for liking and writing crossovers. All of her published crossovers are with the Harry Potter fandom, and most focus on Harry Potter interacting with characters from the other fandoms. As of March 2021 she has made Harry Potter crossovers with Supernatural, The Avengers Movieverse, A Song of Ice and Fire, Spartacus, and Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter.

I have found crossover fics! Harry Potter/Twilight, Harry Potter/Anita Blake, Harry Potter/NCIS, Harry Potter/Avengers and Harry Potter/Supernatural, I love them.[1]

Awards

StarLight Massacre won third place in the Favorite Veteran Author category in the 2015 Fanatic Fanfics Awards, and then the next year in 2016 won First Place in the same category.

Her work The Rise of the Drackens won first place in the All-Time Favorite Harry Potter Fanfic category in the Fanatic Fanfics Awards in 2015 and first place in the Favorite Work-In-Progress Fanfic category in 2016.

Fan Interaction

StarLight Massacre is well known for heavily interacting with fans. She will write extensive author's notes on FanFanfiction.Net to reply to reviewers and answer questions and has an even more active Facebook page, which she promotes on her works as a way to better interact with readers. She will often have polls or votes in author's notes or on Facebook where she asks readers to vote on characters, pairings, or other story elements.

She also shares updates about her life with readers in the author's notes and Facebook posts.

Reception

Positive Reviews

Anything by Starlight Massacre, WONDERFUL author I get so emotionally investing in her writing that I don't until I am full out crying with my mom asking what happened[2]

you just prove over and over that a good story and a amazing author don't go down without a fight![3]

AnimeBooks_684: Truly wonderful. You impress me more and more each time you post a chapter...[4]

Sarluna: Hey Starlight I've began to read your story in the august of 2015 on fanfiction.net. My english at that time wasn't really good and my writing was horrendous. I've had problems with lerning new languages in school and also not really an interest in learning them. What little words I knew always got me trough my tests and I could read some simple texts, but to actually write in english wasn't really possible for me.

I love the genre fantasy since I was a little child, especially dragons fascinated me. So when I began to read your story, you had me on a hock right from the beginning. Thanks to «The Rise of the Drackens» I wanted to unterstand everything that you wrote. I don't know how many hours I translated words that you wrote, but I simly didn't unterstand the context. It's been now nearly one and a half years since that moment. I can read your storys without any problems and feel myself able to finally write you a review, that isn't full of misspellings and sentences that won't make any sence. I just wanted to thank you for creating such an amazing work of art, that captured me completely. I think it's really time, that I give you something back though my reviews. So I will begin my long journey to catch up to your current chapters. Since you are one of the writers I think deserve them the most. <3

What I always loved about your style of writing is that you can describe something, so that the reader can really imagine a picture of what's going on inside his mind...[5]

Elizabeth: Hello! I just wanted to message that I have always loved your stories. They are so complex and riveting.[5]

The Scorpio Lady Enchantress: Thank you thank you so much for doing this because I really really love your stories just reading them brings me a lot of joy in life which is not something I get from where I am in this point in my life and I'm so very thankful that you're doing this dream come I'm taking time out of your life to actually write something thank you thank you so very much and so happy right now you make me not thank you[6]

SlythindorMalfoy: It's over. How sad. :(. What a truly awesome story by a gifted author. I'm so glad you wrote this Star. It kept me on my toes and I love your little babies. They are always adorable. :D. Great update! Great story! You are awesome. XD[7]

Andy: First: Love all your stories. Very entertaining, with interesting plots, concepts and by-play between characters. Also well written...[8]

neverendingstory1: LOVE IT this is perfection every one is in character, its beautiful more please your awesomeness 3[9]

Negative Reviews

StarLight Massacre has received a fair amount of criticism and hate as well on stories. She deleted a number of works because of the backlash against them.

When asked about a deleted work:

Yuki_Reyes: Ohh kk I was wondering if u are ever going to bring it back because it is a really good story
Starlight Massacre: No, not now. I couldn't stand it and after the abuse I got over it, I just decided to get rid of it. It was holding me back and I wanted to move forward, so I deleted all three of my former fics so that I had nothing holding me back and I could move on with my new ones. [5]

She has also received criticism for writing characters, especially Harry Potter, as OOC.

spacecowboy2011: This Harry is so pathetic, broken, meek, etc that I honestly don’t see how the events of the book ever took place as canon. Especially since he just ups and goes to America. Everything about him is a walking contradiction that makes absolutely no sense. Pathetic logic from an otherwise now solid writer.[6]

Guest: I'm not entirely sure what the point of this crossover is if, like you say in the latest A/N, Harry isn't going to reveal he's a wizard. There's literally no point. As it is, you've completely changed Harry's character to the point where he's not recognizable as Harry Potter anymore. There's nothing about his personality that resembles his canon self in any way. You've even added on random new traits, like being as obsessed about creatures as Hagrid is. Instead of being courageous, bold, and brave, he's weak and terrified of anything that twitches near him. He's not the 11 year old who decided that if the adults weren't going to help, he was going to take down whoever was hunting the Philosopher's Stone all by himself. He's not the boy who realized that in order to win, he would have to grab on to Quirrell's face, and did so even though it hurt him terribly. He went back in time to save his godfather from a horde of dementors, and blasted them away with a powerful Patronus at the age of 13, but is deathly afraid of a single dementor-like creature that he could use the same spell on.[10]

Zoha-Lixue: Honestly, I love your writing style. You are an amazing author but by all that is holy I hate nearly every Harry you have written. Harry is nearly always a whiny, toxic, and downright spoiled brat. Yes, he goes through some stuff. Most of the time being dramatic is needed to get his point across. But he goes above and beyond what is considered normal levels of hysteria.

Take this story for example. He gets angry for them not telling him what happened. That is awesome. But then he goes and tells someone else and sits back as they threaten everyone. As though he can't do anything on his own. Then he goes shopping and gets angry because people are concerned about him. He is pregnant and hurt. So why, just why, would he be insulted by their concern when he has proven himself to be incompetent at caring for himself. He doesn't eat, he barely sleeps, he was recently kidnapped where the captors haven't been caught yet. So why does he think that it is ok to do what he does and why are we as readers expected to take his side. I get his situation but I hate him.

You write some amazing stories but I can't read your stuff without wanting to bash my head into a wall over you annoying way of writing Harry.[11]
