Lust...or Love? is a Harry Potter fanfic by Sarinileni, often considered to be a James/Lily fandom classic. Its two-time deletion from FanFiction.Net for sexual content was the catalyst for the creation of the Unknowable Room archive in 2005.

It was nominated in both the categories "Love" and "Lust" for the first round of the Multifaceted Awards, beginning in December 2004, and won for "Lust" ("The PWP Award").[1] Lust or Love also won first place in the category "Best NC-17 Fic" at the 2007 Hourglass Awards.[2]

Author's summary: "Lily accidentally tells her boyfriend she's experienced, and that she learned everything from James Potter. Now she has two weeks to learn how to be good in bed, and she's taking lessons from Potter. But can their explosive enmity take the strain?"[3]

History

Lust or Love? was first posted to FanFiction.Net as a work in progress starting on June 1, 2004.[3] In mid-March 2005, when 26 chapters had been posted and the story had around 6,000 reviews,[4] the story was deleted by FanFiction.Net for violating its policy on explicit content. A re-edited, R-rated version of the story was re-uploaded to FanFiction.Net starting on March 21, 2005.[5] This new version of Lust or Love was again deleted by FanFiction.Net in April 2005, prompting outrage among Sarinileni's fans and friends.[6][7]

These events directly led to the creation of the LiveJournal community The Great Break and to a new fanfiction archive, Unknowable Room.

Following the second deletion of the fic, Sarinileni began posting the story at her LiveJournal and ultimately Portkey.org.[8][9] The story was completed at Portkey on July 15, 2005.[10] It was posted to Unknowable Room in October 2006.[11] It was imported to Archive of Our Own along with the rest of Unknowable Room in 2017 to 2018 as part of the Open Doors project.

Have you ever read Lust of Love by Sarinileni? It's a mature fic, pretty AU but I have to say I really really like it. What do you think, if you've read it?
Of course! Many-a-many-a-year-ago it was The Fic To Be Read. It’s part of what started UR! I remember liking it quite a bit, though as I recall, she utilized Bitch!Lily to an alarming degree. Still, very classic. =)
