After Jim is roughed up, he lets slip with something maybe he shouldn't.
The last thing he needed was Sandburg buzzing around him like a hummingbird on crack. The constant motion and questions were trying what little patience Jim did have. Which, considering the ice pack currently melting onto his balls, wasn't much.

Jim is a man of few words whom we know through his actions rather than what he says. Voluble he’s not. All of which makes Jim’s pov irresistible to me.Most Jim pov fics have him unable to express his emotions yet still able to reflect on them. But in this fic, Jim is as taciturn to himself as he is to the outside world. This is soldier!Jim fic and it’s done as well as any I’ve ever seen.
arrow00 has written the silent Jim I always wanted to read. He's quite glorious: as taciturn to himself as he is to the outside world, not considering his own feelings so much as reacting to them. You can really believe that this repressed man has been in covert ops, seeing and doing some very questionable things.
The story also beautifully illustrates the perfect balance of the Jim/Blair relationship: Blair’s pushing forces Jim to reveal more than Jim is comfortable with, yet opening up to Blair usually brings him a sense of rightness and relief. And of course, being Jim, he can’t help respecting and loving Blair.[1]
Very involving and gripping, and I love the way it's written. I love the clarity, and the excellent Jim voice describing things, and the interwoven innate humor that's just the right amount -- the balance Jim would use in his view of the world.And there's such a natural progression of revelation and understanding on both their parts, firmly rooted in a very real Jim and Blair, a very real-feeling current situation and very real-feeling memories for Jim.

arrow00 is new to the fandom and is writing some great fic. These two linked stories are wonderful; a realistic handling of an injured Jim, persuasive glimpse of his army life, and a slowly unfurling relationship with Blair. NC17, set post the show.[3]

Oh gosh, so good! There aren't nearly enough fics about the gritty, brutal decisions that anyone in military or policing professions, as well as first responders, firejumpers, those in war zones, etc., etc., have to think about & be prepared to make. I believe that thinking seriously about what you can take, what you can & can't stand, without bravado or romanticism, *changes* you. Talking about it changes your relationship with the person you're speaking with. I really liked how you handled 'the talk' here; Blair & Jim seem IC (for sufficiently stoned values of Jim ;-). Thank you for writing & sharing this![4]
