Fannish History

Wow, how I got into fandom? Looking back, it's a little funny (read, embarrassing) actually... My first experience in fandom was with the Sailor Moon and DragonBall Z shows on Cartoon Network. From that initial exposure, I started writing some very bad fanfic (yes, I wrote Mary Sue, but it's a start) in many different anime fandoms. I have since moved on to fandoms like Avengers, Batman (comics), Supernatural, Teen Wolf, Hawaii Five-0, and many, many others. and can only hope that my writing has improved. :P

As a side note, one of my all-time favorite fandoms EVER, is Lord of the Rings and it's many histories. I absolutely love what J.R.R. Tolkien did in creating Middle Earth and have way too much fun playing around in the universe he created.

I started creating podfic (officially) the summer of 2008 and released my first two titles, the "Like Love" series written by solarcat05 and "Respectful of Otters" written by anagrrl. To this day, I continue to find myself going back to those first two authors and wanting to record their work... Both authors have a beautiful writing style that works so very well with the way I record stories.

Now, UN-officially, I started recording my own stories (and my kid sister's) on a little handheld cassette recorder to share with our cousins. That was way back in, I don't know, 1994? I was little, OK. :D

My first experience with conventions was a Creation Con for Supernatural in Nashville, TN in 2011. Lol, I went to NashCon one of Misha's Minions and left one of Richard's Twicksters. Getting the opportunity to meet and talk to the actors on Supernatural was a once in a lifetime experience. They are all very sweet and, in case you weren't aware, Richard Speight, Jr. gives the BEST hugs.

I think that podfic as a fandom has helped me branch out and become much more active in the fan community. I've had skype calls with other podficcers to help with pronunciation of foreign words/phrases and I can't even tell you the number of twitter chats I've had with other fans just sqee-ing over this or that fandom, show, or fic we've discovered.

Because of this, I attended my first Bitchin' Party in 2012 and then drove from Memphis to the Twin Cities to attend the midnight premiere of The Avengers movie only a month later. There were seven of us just fangirling/fanboying for an entire weekend over Avengers, Tumblr, and other fandoms (that I can't think of right now). It was an eye-opening experience to just BE with other fans and to have that level of understanding and acceptance that comes from being fans, hanging out with fans.

I think it's safe to say that 2012 is going to be a year of fannish growth for me. :D

On Fanlore

Primarily, I think I'm here for podfic/audiofic as fanworks and to support my fellow podficcers and their work on Fanlore.
