Reactions and Reviews

The title! Trespassing on Heaven! What images that prepares me for. Simply one of the most tantalizing titles I can remember. But let’s get on with it, shall we?

The time is shortly after Spock’s failed marriage, and Kirk is feeling vaguely uneasy, a feeling which draws him to the first officer’s quarters. There follows a most tender and loving scene, which begins quite innocently. This author has every touch just as it should be if her design was to melt your heart. Spock is, of course, devastated by what happened on Vulcan and cannot convince himself Kirk is really alright. And this Kirk has no doubts, which I like very much.

When things begin to heat up is when you realize that this somewhat familiar theme is not going to seem repetitious or boring at all, because something is very different this time around. The entire mystique, the tangled history and the many unknowns of the Vulcan mating imperative, and of a particular phenomenon called Merging, is deliciously explored and examined. Not in a bookish sort of way, but through the actions, thoughts and dialogue between Kirk and Spock. Ms. Cavalcante doesn’t make it easy for them, but she never makes them enemies, never allows them to doubt each other or the love that is blossoming into vibrant life.

I enjoyed this immensely, was easily and completely absorbed from start to finish.[1]
