The Things That Matter is a zine centered around Riku, the deuteragonist from Kingdom Hearts. The zine is a second installment to a series of zines published by khrikuzine.

About

A year after the completion of The Road to Dawn, a second Riku zine was announced on November 9, 2020[1]. Applications for artists, writers, and merch artists opened on January 10, 2021[2]. Applications closed on February 7, 2021, with a reported total of approximately 230 artists and 60 writers[3].

Preorders opened on June 5, 2021 with the following pricing tiers[4]:

  • Dark Divide ($10 USD) - Digital Zine, Icons, Coloring Pages, Emojis, Encore EPUB
  • Soul Eater ($25 USD) - Physical Zine
  • Oblivion ($30 USD) - Physical Zine, Prints, Sticker Sheet, Die Cut Sticker, Buttons
  • Way To The Dawn ($45 USD) - Physical Zine, Prints, Sticker Sheet, Die Cut Sticker, Buttons, Charms, Magenet, Washi Tape
  • Braveheart ($60 USD, Initally limited to 200) - Physical Zine, Prints, Sticker Sheet, Die Cut Stickers, Buttons, Charms, Magnet, Washi Tape, Acrylic Standee, Spinner Pin, Digital Bundle

Braveheart bundles quickly sold out by June 6th[5]. Due to demand, the limited bundles were restocked on June 12th[6]. Preorders closed on July 3, 2021[7]. In the first of many production updates, the project reported a total of 411 preorders[8].

Shipping began approximately after September 30, 2021[9]. Shipping of physical orders finally completed on September 4, 2021[10]. Digital copies were sent out on October 16, 2021[11].

Leftovers opened on November 13, 2021[12]. On the next day due to demand, the Etsy store was closed and all stock was reallocated to the main Big Cartel storefront[13]. All physical stock was sold out by November 15, 2021[14]. The digital bundle was made available on Gumroad from October 21, 2021 to November 20, 2021[15].
