The Taking is a Kirk/Spock story by Charlotte Frost.

It was published in the print zine First Time #7.

Summary

"The day after his contact with VʼGer Spock goes to Kirk, his intent to make his captain his lover."

Excerpt

"Humans call it 'turning over a new leaf.' Vulcans use no such phrasing, for Vulcans, as a rule, do not make a practice of changing their philosophies. But I am only half-Vulcan, and that admission no longer brings me shame."

The Author's Comments

I remember this because I decided to write it – including the sex – from Spock’s first person point-of-view. I thought it was darned clever. Then I read it later and didn’t think it worked all that well. It was published in a zine where there weren’t any bylines, and readers had to vote for best story. I’m pretty sure this finished fourth. [1]

Reactions and Reviews

I never tire of reading this. Their absolute trust in each other is stunning to put it simply. No questions asked, no doubts, no hesitation whatsoever. Spock asks and Kirk gives. The beauty of it is that it could as well have been the other way around and it wouldn't have made the slightest difference. Two beings in perfect harmony with each other. [2]

This story features the most carefully planned sexual encounter I have ever seen in K/S—down to the handy lubricant applicator which Spock brought with him. And we only gradually realize how completely Spock has planned; In the beginning of the story, Charlotte gives us the impression that Spock is very much the innocent. It would never have occurred to me that such a Spock would be so capable of being so sophisticated about sex, and of being so much in control of the encounter. The gradual unfolding of this first time was definitely a surprise to me. [3]
