The Pirate And The Padawan is a Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan story by Briony .

Summary: This is an AU story that takes place in a world where Jedi Padawans are courtesan slaves similar to oiran. Imagine that the Jedi world of canon has been taken through the looking glass. Obi-Wan has just turned 16 at the beginning of the story. In his world, this is considered the age of majority.

Recs and Reviews

An AU that grabbed me by the neck despite its shaky opening and refused to let go till I was finished. Briony has created a highly interesting alternate reality far in the future of the Republic, where the Jedi Temple has gone from creating Force-trained Knights to, er, courtesans, who are then sold to the highest bidder. Obi-Wan Kenobi is the most accomplished Padawan to ever grace the Temple's halls, until he meets his new Master, Qui-Gon Jinn, and learns what being a Jedi ought to mean. It's quasi-slavefic, but not the usual sort. Oh, and it's long. Don't start it unless you have a few hours up your sleeve.[1]

There aren't many stories that manage to completely draw me in and make me feel like I'm a part of the world the author is describing, but this story most certainly managed it. In a universe where padawans are raised to be pleasure slaves, Obi-Wan is purchased by a very unlikely master... and his problems go downhill from there. *g* With vivid descriptions and beautiful attention to detail, this story immediately became one of my favorites in the fandom.[2]

The Pirate and the Padawan by Briony is the first of two lengthy, completely AR stories (both WIP) set in vaguely British settings. This one is reminiscent of 17th or 18th century Britain, perhaps set near the Scottish border on the coast (yes, to me it's that specific) and features Qui-Gon as the dialect-speaking Pirate, complete with space-pirate ship and fluctuating alliances and Obi-Wan as a courtesan who is highly-trained in seduction. Obi-Wan wears makeup and is proud of his ability to do the tea ceremony properly.[3]

So it sounds a little silly--Pirate? ahaha--but it sucks you in (no pun intended ^___^) in a major way. Obi-Wan's progression from whiny little pleasure slave to trained warrior is beautiful, and nearly as satisfying as his lapse back to old habits.[4]
