Bittersweets, written by Herself, is a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fanfic series pairing Buffy/Spike. The Bittersweets Series is a sprawling epic and features many Spuffy tropes - time travel to the 1880s, eventual domestic kidfic.
Bittersweets was Winner of Best Series in the 2002 Watching You Awards and nominated in numerous categories in the Fall, 2003 Eternal Devotion Awards. It also won Best Conventional Pairing Series and Outstanding Conventional Author in Round 8 of the Shades of Grey Awards, and won Best Series in Round 9 of the Shades of Grey Awards; again in the Conventional Pairing category.[1][2]
Reactions & Reviews
The series starts post-Wrecked, where we find Buffy slowly falling in love with Spike. Although I'd recommend starting from the beginnning (oh yes), the time travel starts with Mr. Grieves and the Fallen Woman which is the eighth story in the series: Buffy finds herself in 19th century London, and meets someone she thinks she knows.[3]
Only a couple of stories in this epic series contain time-travel. Still, you should read the whole thing. After the events of "Wrecked”, Spike urges Buffy to find out exactly why the chip no longer sees her as human. The discovery leads to a centuries long adventure, complete with occasional time travel, dimension hopping, kids, spells-gone-wrong, and even a trip into outer space. Spike/Buffy, Ensemble, NC17. Prologue story Manhattan Nocturne is tangental to the series, and mostly OCs — you can skip it to get to the Spuffy, if you must. (It’s really good, though.)[4]
