"Invited to dinner by Kirk after five years apart, Spock finds a letter addressed to him in one of Kirkʼs books, a letter that confesses Kirkʼs feelings for Spock."

Reactions and Reviews

This story is set in Kirk's apartment where he's making dinner for Spock after not seeing him for 5 years. The plot revolves around the discovery of an unsent letter which is the catalyst for bringing unspoken feelings to the surface. This is very much a Kirk story—all of his emotions are examined: his nervousness and anticipation before Spock arrives, his elation at seeing Spock again, his dismay when he discovers Spock has read his unsent letter, his excitement and anxiety when he realizes Spock's feeling for him, his arousal while making love, and the common thread in all of this—his love for Spock. We don't get much insight into Spock except for what is revealed through the dialogue. I didn't mind, however, or feel there was some lack in the story. It seemed the author obviously just wanted to explore Kirk's feelings for Spock. However, as is usual with kira-nerys, the story does have a strong Spock. This is not a shy or hesitant Vulcan once he realizes how Kirk feels! Although the story reveals much more about Kirk than Spock, Spock is portrayed as rather a dominant personality, and even takes the initiative in their lovemaking. (As you might guess, I do not have a problem with Spock on top!) Through the way the story reveals what Kirk is thinking and feeling, I found the characterizations in this story worked for me. I also found the reason why Kirknever told Spock how he felt about him to be intriguing, and a little different than I thought it would be. It had little to do with doubts about Spock's feelings, or worries about ruining their friendship, and much to do with Kirk's ideas on pre Reform Vulcan, Vulcan warriors, submission and commitment. I liked this story, and it had the added bonus of several nice, long, passionate lovemaking scenes— whew, I am fanning myself even as I think about it! There's also a really wonderful drawing by [IM Mueller] of Kirk and Spock nude that accompanies this story.[1]

a classic canon-compliant TOS love story that will make you cry a little with how beautiful it is and warm your heart. Also check out other stories by this author.[2]
