Infobox image

Hello Night Rain. I understand you took the initiative of putting an image in the infobox. I had contacted an artist for the spot after asking the opinion of other people in the project through the official server, since the image is quite singular and a spotlight. The image was chosen and I left a warning that the request had been sent as well, it's in this page's history.
While the effort is welcome, this sudden type of upload to a page that has had minimal contribution from others was not expected and, as consequence, I will now have to contact the artist chosen in order to retract the request and apologize for the inconvenience. Please, when interacting with pages that are being actively worked on by other users, leave a Talk topic, as you have apparently been doing in other pages, so that we might all be up to date and avoid needless grief with artists. I had not expected this from you specifically, since when working on pages to which you have contributed far more with than this one, you have asked or waited for others' input on topics of this importance. I am currently dealing with a severe migraine attack and thus am trying to limit screentime. I usually limit my art uploads to Creative Commons art. However, the artist @stepheniepepper on Instagram has the text "if reposting please credit me!" in her bio. This is noted on the summaries of both the Astarion fanart and the Gale fanart. Feel free to request deletion for these files if this artist is unhappy with such re-use and I've misinterpreted this statement as a blanket permission for re-posting with credit outside Instagram. Otherwise, I don't have the spoons to deal with whatever pot you're trying to stir by accusing me of causing "needless grief with artists" because I'm not privy to inaccessible off-site conversations. Also rather ironic to scold me for not "ask[ing] or wait[ing] for others' input" when you've seemingly reached what you consider a major editorial decision through an off-wiki discussion that was not readable or open to *ALL* BG project members, and then declined to post an update about the outcome of this hidden conversation somewhere *ALL* project participants could see (e.g. FanloreProject talk:Baldur's Gate). Restored the old infobox image, if we decide to use a different one, we can change in the future. -- FBV (talk) 17:55, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
Taking a look at this whole interaction a few hours later with my Policy & Admin hat on, my understanding is that Night Rain actually missed the edit summary that indicated an image was on the way for the infobox, and this was an honest mistake. What I personally will do going forward, and what I recommend and I think would have avoided this thing, would be to leave a talk page comment to indicate when I have requested rights to an infobox image and am waiting to hear back from the artist. My guess is that people mostly don't read edit log summaries, so it's easy to miss the kind of notification that was here. But if they see a non-redlink talkpage, they'll check that before putting an infobox image. This will avoid this kind of issue in the future. Since this was just a misunderstanding, I think Night Rain also was quite upset at the post criticizing the infobox image, which led to this bad interaction. So, if someone adds an infobox image when you've already got one on the way, the best move is to treat them kindly and assume good faith. If you think someone has acted inappropriately, reach out to Fanlore first via the Contact link on the side of the page. That way, we don't have misunderstandings like this in the future. My thanks to both of you for your patience on this matter, and if you want to change the infobox image further on this page, make sure to hash things out here on the talk page. -- FBV (talk) 11:43, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

Change to Example format?

Since there are many types of examples for this trope, would the page be easier to read/navigate if it looked more similar to Sometimes Like This/Also Like That, for example? By using different sub-headers? As it currently is, each character/pairing gets a link in the infobox, but that might distort the page for some users. There are more links to be added to characters/pairings with few examples as well, but also still a few to Astarion, Gale and Shadowheart. Should they be added or are the sections for those three enough currently? Aliandry (talk) 23:38, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
