Talk:Steven Universe

Needs a mention of the "make it gayer" cartoon, and the network drama/events leading up to it. I don't know the details. Elf (talk) 04:21, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

The "Gay space rocks" link on the main page doesn't work; should be removed. (Anyone know what it referred to?) Elf (talk) 19:40, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

Page could use (these and more):

  • More examples of fics, and explanations of which fanfics exemplify common tropes
  • Fanon/fan reactions to individual characters, and links to pages about those
  • Examples of gemsonas, esp gemsona-focused communities
  • List of minor characters
  • Mentions of any fanwork contests - fic exchanges, Big Bangs, etc.
  • More details about common tropes and settings
  • Fanfic communities, current and past
  • Reference links for some of the drama/history details
  • tumblrs dedicated to the fandom, or that regularly feature it
  • Notes about BNFs in the fandom and what they are known for

The paragraph about the cancer patient being harassed needs to be re-written a little, it's sort of hard to understand and not very comprehensive. The last sentence especially does not make any sense "The fandom was in an uproar about AwestruckVox picking on a child with cancer, and said child was given permission post them." Does "said child" refer to the actual child, or is this a typo that was meant to say "and said THE child?" Patchlamb (talk) 6:22pm, 12/15/2019

Disambig request

please move back to Steven Universe, in accordance with how work/character name overlap is handled with other pages e.g. Harry Potter

Actually Steven Universe is currently structured the way most of our fandom vs name pages are. There is a disambig page Steven Universe that links to both Steven Universe (show) and Steven Universe (character). See Wynonna Earp, Andromeda, and Nikita disambig pages for similar examples. Harry Potter is an exception, as the page was created all the way back in 2008. There is a discussion on Talk:Harry Potter explaining all the reasons why editors later chose not to disambiguate. I'm personally not in favour of moving this page to Steven Universe. --Auntags (talk) 11:01, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
Wikipedia uses the concept of a primary topic when deciding whether to disambiguate pages. It's not as common of Fanlore (I think because we don't want to get into deciding if one fandom/fanwork/fan is more popular/noteworthy than another) but there are instances where it is appropriate. See Sherlock Holmes, Robin Hood, Alex Rider, Hellboy, Moana... When it's just a fandom vs the eponymous character, I'm in favor of not having a disambiguation page. It makes sense and is much cleaner to have the fandom as the primary topic. (Incidentally, "(show)" is a pretty non-standard disambiguator; I'd usually go for (fandom) or (TV series)) --sparc 01:59, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, Sparc. I wasn't aware of the concept of primary topics or the pages you listed. Given the examples you listed, I agree with whatever the majority deicison is on this page. I also agree disambiging using (TV series) or (fandom) makes more sense. --Auntags (talk) 20:38, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

Sorry this took so long. I was hoping more people would chime in and then I forgot to check back. Moving Steven Universe (show) to Steven Universe, and will add a you may be looking for the character Steven Universe note to the top of this page. So there will be no disambig page like sparc proposed. --Auntags (talk) 20:50, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
