Secret Santas?

Does someone know that Don We Now Our Gay Apparel came before/was based on Secret Slasha? Both archives have fic dating back to the same year (2001).--Ari 07:21, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Pet, who made the edit "It was based on the original Buffy Secret Santa Gift Exchange run by Kate Bolin", was one of the co-mods of DWNOGA, so the info that it was based on Secret Slasha comes from her own experience. Sinead 15:42, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Further additions?

Added topics/sections that could be useful: Early history of popslash on LJ. Image communities and their significance (and their names, I can't remember some of the important ones that have gone buh-bye.) Issues in the fandom--Ethics. Discussion/disputes on ethics of RPS that engaged popslashers with fans outside the fandom. Discussion/disputes on ethics of RPS within the fandom--e.g., fictionalizing family members, friends, how did people decide where to draw those lines (were they different for Trace, Lynn, the Carters, Bobbie/ee, Chris's mom and sisters, Lance's presumed boyfriends, etc.) What meaning did canon vs. fanon take on in this, or any context? Fic challenges--the stories that shifted the fandom. How canon material revealed new things and changed pairing perceptions and focus. Any links with contemporary discussion of any of the above (be sure to check the guidelines at Fanlore:Citation.) What else am I not thinking of? Sinead 15:50, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Where's the Backstreet Boys?

This is a fabulous entry for NSync fandom -- but we desperately need to find some BSB fans to flesh this out (or make this entry shorter, make two subpages, one BSB, one NSync, and put most of this stuff on the NSync page).

names and definitions

Subreality Cafe's fandom dictionary gives a different definition of popslash:

Slash fanfic or roleplaying games centering around hot celebrities and popular bands/musicians, usually adult in mature. A good example of the RPG genre is mustbepop on LiveJournal. A fandom unto itself.

The term was added to their dictionary some time between November 2004 and February 2005, whereas the term boy band slash was already in the dictionary as of September 2002. This suggests to me that the term "popslash" was adopted later or was first used only in some places (livejournal?) and not others. It could also mean that subreality cafe didn't know what it was talking about....--aethel (talk) 16:48, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

ALSO, a twitter person mentioned Hanson as another group that fell under Popslash, but before it became big.[1]--aethel (talk) 22:47, 25 May 2015 (UTC) Although the Hanson page itself implies it wasn't part of popslash (maybe because of prevalence of hetfic? so the slash parts could have overlapped?)--aethel (talk) 22:49, 25 May 2015 (UTC)
