Talk:Mythbusters RPF

The way I understand the description on this page here Mythbusters is a show where any fanfic would be RPF. Should this be renamed to Mythbusters without the RPF in the name? After all there doesn't seem to be the need to distinguish it from any FPF for that show. --Doro 18:50, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

I think it should stay with this title to make clear that it is a RPF fandom. Like Beatles RPF isn't just called Beatles either. This way someone who does not know the show (like me) can see at first glance that it is not a fictional tv show fandom.--RatCreature 19:38, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
I think Beatles RPF should be just Beatles too because there can't be any Beatles fanfic that isn't RPF. It makes sense to distinguish between Lord of the Rings and Lord of the Rings RPF (which should probably move to it's own top level page) because on the one hand are the fictional characters and on the other hand are the characters based on the actors. I would say it's different for sources that can't have any FPF. For example Popslash isn't called Popslash RPF, and Bandom isn't Bandom RPF (either incarnation), 'N Sync isn't Nsync RPF, Backstreet Boys isn't Backstreet Boys RPF and American Idol isn't American Idol RPF.--Doro 19:56, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
I guess if there was a standard, I'd like the RPF always added for easy recognition, at least if the pattern is "sourcename+RPF" unlike the hypothetical "popslash RPF" where the fic part of the acronym would be redundant, so there a standardization with RPF tacked on would lead to combinations akin to "ATM machines" and "PIN numbers". But if it varies, I think it should stick with the most common self-label that is used inside the fandom. For example AIRPS seems common enough from what I've seen, so maybe that should be changed to American Idol RPF. I have no idea what Mythbuster stories are labelled by people. If fans call their fandom "Mythbuster RPF" the article should be named that, if it is just "Mythbusters" fandom, or if there is a non-fic fannish engagement too we should call it that. I mean, for all I know there could Mythbusters fans who film their own videos in the style of episodes as fannish engagement or something. Then that clearly would not be RPF.--RatCreature 20:27, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
ETA: Similarly I think that the Beatles actually might be big enough as a non-fic fandom, that we could have a Beatles entry about Beatles fans for non-RPF fanac, and an extra one about the fic.--RatCreature 20:30, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
I think it makes sense to call it RPF because the fact that it's an RPF fandom is one of the defining features of the fandom, and is one of the reasons it isn't such a big fandom. Also I agree with ratcreature that it helps to make it clear to people who don't know the show that this is an RPF fandom. -- Toft 18:12, 27 Feb 2010 (EST)

Just for the record, I still think this should be renamed Mythbusters and Beatles RPF should be The Beatles. --Doro 21:53, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
